Lawrenceville Resident Streetscape Survey

Lawrenceville Corp. received funding from the URA to create a set of ideal design guidelines for Butler Street! Because development occurs so rapidly in our neighborhood, our infrastructure is constantly changing and we need a set of uniform guidelines to provide to developers, PennDOT, the City of Pittsburgh, and other community partners to ensure that all future development projects are in line with neighborhood priorities.

The Butler Street Corridor Streetscape Design Guidelines will include an explicit set of conditions-based block-by block standards for streetscape components on Butler Street. The Guidelines will encompass the length of Butler Street and will make recommendations for the design, materials, fabrication, installation, maintenance for the following streetscape elements: ADA accessible walkways, sidewalks, street trees, public art, street lighting, storm water management, street furniture, way-finding signage, cycling and public transportation amenities, and other elements as appropriate.

Lawrenceville Corporation completed an extensive RFP process and selected Studio for Spatial Practice, a design firm based in Lawrenceville, to create the Butler Street guidelines.

This document will be a useful tool to give to incoming developers and community partners to ensure Butler Street is safe, accessible and walkable for everyone. The planning process will include several community meetings, including a walk-shop we held in February to analyze the business district block by block. Team members from Studio from Spatial Practice will present initial ideas at the April 16 neighborhood wide public safety meeting.  Ahead of that meeting, Lawrenceville Corporation and Studio for Spatial Practice are collecting information from residents.
