Housing in Lawrenceville: A Community Event
We invite the community to an event on the state of housing in Lawrenceville
Over the past year, Lawrenceville Corporation (LC) and Lawrenceville United (LU) have hosted a number of community meetings to discuss the housing projects currently planned and underway in the neighborhood. There are approximately 1,000 market-rate residential units in the planning or construction phase throughout Lawrenceville. Residents, property owners, developers, and elected officials have all recognized the importance of responsible growth, and the community’s vision that includes developing a ‘housing for all,’ strategy as a priority. Many in the community have expressed an interest in further exploring solutions to preserving affordability in Lawrenceville.
LC and LU are hosting an event focused on the state of housing in Lawrenceville on May 7th, 10 AM—2 PM at Goodwill of Southwestern PA located at 118 52nd Street (the opposite side of their retail location). The event will feature a presentation on the current housing market and recent history of Lawrenceville’s residential real estate market, and a panel discussion with local leaders to discuss the menu of tools currently available and underway to preserve and create affordable housing throughout Lawrenceville and the City of Pittsburgh. The Lawrenceville Corporation will also outline work to date on the Community Land Trust initiative (see February 2016 Bulletin Article “Community Land Trust Lands in Lawrenceville”).
The presentations and discussions will run from 10:30 AM—12PM. From 12PM—2PM, partner agencies, local banks and lenders, and community groups will be on hand with information and resources for current homeowners, potential homeowners, and renters in the community. Residents can expect to walk away with working knowledge on the current real estate market, efforts within the community and on local levels to create tools and policies around preserving affordability, and information on products and programs that can help you purchase a home in the community, access resources to prepare you for homeownership, and resources for renters in the community.
There is no cost to attend the event, refreshments will be served, and participants can register to attend online using this Google form or by calling Lawrenceville Corporation’s Real Estate Manager, Ed Nusser at 412-621-1616 x106. Notes and information shared at the event will be made available at online at lvpgh.com/housing-2016 and lunited.org.
