More Dough than Ever in The Joy of Cookies, Cookie Tour 2015

16th Annual Joy of Cookies, Cookie Tour

Forty stops along and off of Butler Street are participating in this year’s Cookie Tour from Thursday December 3rd through Sunday the 6th. Starting around 10AM until approximately 6PM each day, participating businesses can have cookies out during their regular business hours during the days of the tour. With the incredible growth in of new businesses in Upper Lawrenceville (between 57th Street and Stanton Avenue), this year marks the most ever stops in this part of the neighborhood on the Cookie Tour!

A Little Background

In 2000, a small group of shop owners noticed they were each organizing holiday open houses on different weekends in December. Deciding to band together, share mailing lists, and throw a joint party, they thought about offering little sample sized cookies to attract new customers into their stores. One of the original participating businesses was Gallery on 43rd Street where owner and artist Mary Coleman made about three dozen cookies. “I ran out,” she noted ”and was wondering what am I going to do on Sunday!” When she opened her doors that morning a friend and neighbor from Highland Park was there with backup cookies baked using one of the recipe cards she had out the day before. Today, businesses are asked to make at minimum 40 dozen sample sized cookies for excited tour goers.

Growth in the 10th Ward

During 2015 there have been 23 different businesses who have opened their doors in Lawrenceville, especially in the 10th Ward, or Upper Lawrenceville.  These include Vestis, Von Walter and Funk, Garden of Mind, Piebird, and The Gilded Girl. Liz Quesnelle, owner of The Gilded Girl—a beauty emporium— is excited that this section of Lawrenceville is transforming into a shopping destination. She will be pairing her cookies to match some of the sweet beauty products she has available for sale including exfoliating sugar scrubs.

Join the Tour!

The tour spans from Thursday, December 3rd until Sunday December 6th from approximately 10AM until 6PM (see the cookie tour map for specific hours for certain businesses). A trolley will be circulating through the neighborhood to allow for visitors to park and ride across the neighborhood on Saturday December 5th 12PM until 6PM.
