Upper Lawrenceville Welcomes New Cafe, B52

Almond yogurt, fermented buckwheat pancakes, and cherry bourbon chocolate truffles are just a few of the menu items you will find at Lawrenceville’s newest restaurant and cafe, B52. Located at 5202 Butler Street, B52 is a vegan cafe and restaurant serving Middle Eastern-influenced foods. The atmosphere is casual yet elegant, and the prices are affordable- with nothing over $10 on the menu. There will be salads, homemade vegan chocolates, and manakish- a thin, pizza-like flatbread. They are doing everything in-house from making hummus to fermenting vegetables, and are using mostly organic produce. Beverage options include espresso, loose leaf teas, and a variety of house-made draft kombuchas. Upon entering, customers have the option to be seated in the dining room or order items to-go from the counter. B52 will be open for breakfast and lunch, and will eventually expand into dinner hours.

Owner Omar Abuhejleh also owns Allegro Hearth Bakery in Squirrel Hill, and has been developing the B52 concept for several years with business partners and friends. He designed the interior of the space himself, and had help from numerous friends building everything from the booths to the customized ceiling lamps. Abuhejleh is making sustainable practices an integral part of his operations, and is even donating food scraps and coffee grounds to Hazelwood Urban Farms for fertilizer.

B52 is a much-needed healthy and affordable breakfast and lunch option in the neighborhood. They are open for business this week, so stop by 5202 Butler today and check them out!
